“Sashka has always been a hard worker. I am sure he will quickly find his vocation” – Radionova about Samarin, who ended his career

Bronze medalist at the World Championships Elena Radionova in a conversation with , she expressed confidence that the skater Alexandre Samarin will quickly find himself in a new company.

On Saturday, Samarin announced his retirement after performing his free program at the Spartakiad of the Strongest. The 25-year-old athlete from Magnitogorsk took 11th place with 224.91 points. Evgeniy Semenenko won the tournament (304.40).

— It’s a shame when athletes end their careers, there’s always a touch of nostalgia. Sasha made his contribution to men’s single skating, he was one of the first to start jumping the quadruple lutz, in the short program it was his thing, his strong point. We waited for each competition to see if he would do his stunt – quadruple lutz-triple toe loop or not. Sashka has always been a hard worker, always working one hundred percent.

I have known him since childhood, we skated with Inna Germanovna (Goncharenko), then he moved on to Svetlana Vladimirovna (Sokolovskaya), but we also skated on the same rink and saw each other every day. He established himself thanks to his work, he and Svetlana Vladimirovna formed a good tandem, they worked well, she always believed in him and he did not let her down. He’s a great guy, he opened up the world of quad Lutz to singles athletes. I wish him success in his new ventures, I am sure he will quickly find his calling. He completes a path, the new one will be no less interesting and eventful. Good luck to him in all his endeavors,” Radionova told .

At the 2019 European Championships, Samarin won a silver medal in single skating and at the 2019 World Team Championships he became a bronze medalist.
