The Canadian Figure Skating Federation (Skate Canada) has included in the preliminary agenda of the International Skating Union (ISU) Congress an item on simplifying the procedure for changing sports citizenship for figure skaters, according to a document obtained by .

The fundamental change concerns the quarantine conditions that an athlete must undergo after receiving permission to change their sports citizenship. According to current regulations, this period is 12 months. Skate Canada is proposing to change the quarantine period from one calendar year (from the date of release) to one full season from the date of approval and counting from the skater’s last international departure. It is clarified that the federation must respond to an application for change of citizenship immediately after receiving a set of necessary documents.

The next ISU Congress will be held June 10-14 in Las Vegas. The final agenda for the congress will be known at the end of March at the earliest.

The ISU has suspended Russian athletes from international competitions in 2022.
