Ukrainians performed successfully in the weight category up to 78 kg
Two Ukrainian athletes won medals at the judo tournament series Grand Slamwhich took place in Baku, Azerbaijan).
In the weight category up to 78 kg Ukrainian Yulia Kurchenko won a silver medal. Her compatriot Elizaveta Litvinenko, won bronze.
Let us note that the Ukrainian judokas met each other at the quarterfinal stage, the fate of which was decided by the third “shido” for Litvinenko. However, Elizaveta managed to win her debut medal at the Grand Slam level, successfully defeating both rivals in the consolation bracket: Loriana Kuka from Kosovo and Slovenian Metka Lobnik.
Kurchenko defeated German Anna Monta Olek in the semi-finals, after which in the main match of the day she lost in extra time to the experienced three-time World Championship medalist Gyusha Stenghuis from the Netherlands.
The Ukrainian team in Baku won three medals. Daria Beloded also performed successfully in Azerbaijan, winning bronze in the weight category up to 57 kg.
