Former International Skating Union (ISU) president Ottavio Cinquanta has died aged 83, according to the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI) website.
The official led the ISU from 1994 to 2016, after which he remained honorary president of the organization. Cinquanta was also a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) from 1996 to 2016 and a member of the Coordination Commission for the XXII Olympic Winter Games in Sochi.
— On hearing this news, the president of CONI, Giovanni Malago, declared a minute of silence to the executive committee and the national council. Malago expressed his deep condolences to the family, including on behalf of all Italian sports, on the occasion of the loss of a great leader who gave so much for the development of sport and prestige on the international scene.
