Marseille officially appointed Jean-Louis Gasse as head coach

The 70-year-old mentor replaced 46-year-old Gattuso

Olympic Marseille shortly after confirmation of resignation Gennaro Gattuso officially announced his appointment as head coach Jean-Louis Gasset.

Let us remind you that the Italian coach was fired due to unsatisfactory results. Under him, the Provencals remained without victories in all tournaments for seven matches and occupy only ninth place in the Ligue 1 table.

Yesterday information appeared that Marseille had decided on Gattuso’s replacement. 70-year-old Frenchman Jean-Louis Gasse was chosen as the new mentor.

This specialist worked as a head coach with the French clubs Montpellier, Caen, Istres, Saint-Etienne and Bordeaux. Since 2022, Gasse has led the Ivory Coast national team.

Last month, the experienced coach was sacked as coach of the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations host team. Under him, the Elephants took third place in Group A and barely qualified for the playoffs. Gasse was replaced by his assistant, 40-year-old Emers Fahe, and Ivory Coast welcomed its fourth African title.

Let us remind you that Marseille is Shakhtar Donetsk’s opponent in the Europa League playoffs. In the first match of the 1/16 finals of the tournament, the teams tied with a score of 2:2. The return match will take place in France on February 22.
