“I was somewhat hurt by Moskvina’s words.” Slyusarenko spoke about motivation in coaching

One of the leading Russian specialists in pair skating, Pavel Slyusarenko, told how Tamara’s words once Moscow encouraged him to prove to everyone that his success was not accidental.

— This job really interests me, especially from the point of view of results. I remember that when my athletes first entered the final group, I was somewhat hurt by Moskvina’s words: they say, it’s unusual to see me next during a strong warm-up. This became a great incentive not only to achieve something, but also to prove that success is not accidental.

Before the Beijing Games, I understood that Tamara Nikolaevna had two strong couples, and we had Tarasova and Morozov, who at that time were the best skaters in the world. As a result, the task of Vova and Zhenya was to get rid of their weak points. And I was very proud that our team was able to achieve this. In general, to be honest, I was shocked at how, with quite a large number of different specialists, none of us felt in our place – everyone did what they wanted. I think it was the best coaching team at the Olympics,” RT Slyusarenko quotes.
