Inzaghi: Inter played an outstanding match against a great opponent

Head coach Inter Simone Inzaghi summed up the results of the victorious match with Atlético Madrid (1:0) in the first match of the 1/8 finals of the Champions League.

“This match leaves us with good feelings about the boys’ outstanding performance against a great opponent. We regret that we won with only one goal advantage because we have a tense match ahead of us in Madrid. I’m happy for Arnautovic: he’s doing very well.”

“We played a good first half – not exceptional – against a strong opponent. In the second half, we didn’t play very well for the first ten minutes, but then we did great and the players who came on did a great job.”

“We performed very well in these six months, but the most important months are March and April. The guys need to continue in the same spirit. I like to see how they train, but we know that difficulties will come: intense matches, fatigue, some players getting injured. But we must continue to work as we are doing now.”

“Our game was very good because we faced a physical and technical team. It wasn’t easy at all. Now we have another difficult game in Madrid. We are sorry because we deserved something better than 1:0. It will be difficult in Madrid when a full stadium is ready to support Atlético, but we will prepare for the second half of the confrontation in the best possible way.”

The Nerazzurri’s victory in the first game was brought by a goal from Marko Arnautovic. The return match between Atlético and Inter will take place on March 13. The game starts at 22:00 Kyiv time.
