Women’s figure skating in Russia is scarier than show business, says Rudkovskaya

Wife of the double Olympic champion Evgenia Plushenko producer Yana Rudkovskaya compared modern Russian figure skating to show business.

– In Russian show business there are public and unspoken rules that everyone obeys in one way or another. If the rule suddenly stops working, a revolution occurs. Suppose someone wrongly received some kind of reward – this is discussed quite openly, and people are not afraid to raise such topics. The person who received this award may begin to boo – in a word, the situation begins to improve one way or another. I’ve been brewing this whole thing for over 17 years and in general I can say that the vast majority of music awards are given out in show business on the basis of merit, not as a result of some secret plot. If you’re in streaming and number one in radio, it’s impossible not to recognize your success. In general, show business is a rather difficult story. But when I came to the sport, all my previous experience seemed, as they say, a slight scare. Women’s figure skating is scarier, quotes RT Rudkovskaya.

– What could be simpler and more honest than sport? Faster, higher, stronger – and you’ve won. But when it comes to figure skating, it turned out to be an illusion. For some, for example, judges stubbornly see the wrong edge or underrotations, while for someone the exact same edges and underrotations go unnoticed. Why? And the components? This is usually a separate song. Doesn’t it make sense that the rules are the same for everyone? How can you get dozens of components if the athlete accumulated during the program? It turns out that whoever has more rights and more leverage wins. The performance of an athlete, the quality of his skating become secondary in this scheme, – explained Rudkovskaya.
