Nagorny: “We have done our best for Russian athletes so that they are not abandoned or left behind”

Olympic artistic gymnastics champion Nikita Nagorny told that the best possible conditions have been created for Russian athletes to perform in conditions of international isolation.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced on December 8 that it would allow Russian and Belarusian athletes who successfully qualified for the 2024 Summer Olympics to have individual neutral status. Russian athletes will be able to perform in Paris without a flag, anthem and other national symbols. The IOC banned the participation of athletes associated with security forces or who have expressed support for the SVO, as well as participation in team sports.

— What is your opinion on the Paris Olympics, how do you assess the admission situation?

— Maybe some athletes will make it, as far as I know, there will be maybe six out of a possible two thousand from Russia and Belarus. As Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said, it’s everyone’s choice. You can’t stop someone from doing something, like people involved in politics do now. Today we have done everything we can for the country and the athletes so that they are not abandoned or left behind. As an athlete, I understand that I have hope, that I am ready to come back, to train, for example, for a month or two, to participate in the BRICS Games or the Friendship Games, big international competitions with good competition, where even Chinese athletes will come. China is in contention for gymnastics gold,” Nagorny told .

The Paris Summer Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11, 2024.
