Arthur Jorge Braga de Melo Teixeira, who recently celebrated his birthday (February 13), died this morning in Lisbon after a long illness.
The native of Porto was a quality forward, spent several strong seasons for Benfica, and twice became the championship’s top scorer.
During his coaching career, Arthur Jorge managed to work with various clubs from Portugal, France, the Netherlands, Saudi Arabia, Russia and Algeria, as well as with the national teams of Portugal (twice), Switzerland and Cameroon. His main achievement is KEC-1987, the first and penultimate in the history of Porto. In the semi-finals of that draw, the Dragons beat Dynamo Kiev (twice 2:1).
In addition, Jorge became the champion of Portugal (three times with Porto), France (with PSG) and Saudi Arabia (with Al-Hilal). At the end of 1987, he was recognized as the best coach in Europe.
