The Ukrainian believes that the fight with Benavidez is a serious challenge
Former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk (20-1, 16 KO) commented on the information about the fight against David Benavidez (28-0, 24 KO). The Ukrainian stressed that the fight will take place this summer.
“They made a request, I agreed. Now I’m starting to work.”
“I think this fight will be amazing. This is exactly why I came back – to fight for belts at the highest level. I want to become a champion again.”
“Benavidez is one of the biggest names. As far as I know, the fight will take place in June or July. David is still popular. It will be a very difficult challenge for me.”
Earlier, Gvozdyk said that he expects to hold his next fights in March and May. As options, the boxer named the Premier Boxing Champions show from Amazon on March 30, and a fight on the undercard of Saul Alvarez, which can be expected in May.
WBC Ukraine President Nikolai Kovalchuk recently announced a fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez. The fight will take place for the WBC interim champion belt, which is owned by the American.
The Ukrainian knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.
Benavidez fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round.
