Rodnina on Skate Canada’s intention to challenge the Russian team’s medal at the Olympics: “It’s not dangerous to want. I don’t think they have a chance of succeeding.

Three-time Olympic champion, deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Irina Rodnina told that the Canadian Figure Skating Federation (Skate Canada) has no chance of success in its appeal against the redistribution of medals from the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympics.

Skate Canada previously announced it would appeal the International Skating Union’s (ISU) decision to redistribute the bronze medal from the Beijing Olympics to the team figure skating tournament.

– Desire is not harmful. The ISU clearly explained and showed us how the results were canceled. The total result without Kamila Valieva’s points showed that we have more points than Canada. If they want to appeal, let them do so. I think they have no chance of success,” Rodnina told .

At the end of January, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) suspended Russian figure skater Kamila Valieva for four years from December 25, 2021 for violating anti-doping rules, and her results for this period were annulled. The move led to a review of the results of the 2022 Olympics team tournament, where Valieva helped the Russian team win. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second and the Russians will receive bronze. Team Canada remained fourth.

The ISU later announced that the decision regarding the team tournament was based on a comprehensive expert evaluation and was fully in line with the CAS verdict.
