Honored coach of the USSR in figure skating Tatyana Tarasova explained how she deals with athletes who agree to change their citizenship.
Previously, the Canadian Figure Skating Federation submitted a proposal to the International Skating Union (ISU) aimed at simplifying the procedure for changing sports citizenship.
— Typically, citizenship is changed by those who fail to qualify for the national team. I can’t say that this is a problem for Russian sport. Initiative of the Canadian federation? They are so concerned about this because they don’t have their own normal skaters,” Tarasova said, as quoted by RB Sport.
In August, 17-year-old figure skater Sofya Samodelkina changed her sports citizenship and now intends to compete for Kazakhstan. Samodelkina is a silver medalist at the Slovenian Junior Grand Prix and a silver medalist at the Russian Junior Championships.
