Olympic silver medalist, choreographer and director Ilya Averbukh declared that the skater Roman Kostomarov will participate in his entire tour.
Kostomarov was hospitalized in early 2023 due to complications from pneumonia. The 47-year-old athlete suffered several limb amputations and then underwent prosthetic surgery. Last December, he returned to ice skating.
— Roman Kostomarov will participate in our entire tour. It is an integral part of all my projects. It has always been this way and it will always be this way.
Roma have had a very difficult time. Exactly a year ago, when he was in the hospital and struggling between life and death, we opened a show in Yaroslavl and held a program in support of the Roma. People wrote him letters of love and support. We picked them up during intermission and brought them to Roman. It is symbolic for me that exactly a year later he travels to the same cities and goes on the ice himself. Maybe Roman will skate too, thanking those who prayed for him and supported him with all their might.
The appearance of Roman Kostomarov in the series is important for everyone. It gives the strength to face the trials that everyone faces in their life,” Averbukh said, as quoted by Sport24.
Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, became a gold medalist at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, also became a two-time world champion and won the European Championships three times.
