Ryzhikova: My opponents are very strong, but anything can happen in the final

Women’s 400m hurdles final on 23 July

Ukrainian Anna Ryzhikova commented on her exit the final in the 400m hurdles 2022 World Championships in Athletics in American Eugene.

“Today was physically much easier, but I felt more responsible than yesterday. Yesterday I understood that if I go according to plan, I will easily get into the semi-finals. And today it was already necessary to give all the best, work, control the race and rivals, not make mistakes.

“There was not much time between the qualification and the semi-finals. Usually, at such competitions, races take place late in the evening, so the whole daily routine is adjusted to this – I sleep for a long time, then I have breakfast, and warm up. But here everything was different, and I had to reorganize my regime a bit, because the qualifying competitions were at 17:00, and today at 18:00. Therefore, I didn’t sleep much, had breakfast and didn’t do any warm-ups, and at 15 o’clock I was already at the stadium and preparing directly for the semi-finals.”

“My main rivals in the final are very strong and, unfortunately, they perform at a different level. But this is the final, and anything can happen here: we saw the seventh place of Karsten Warholm, who was considered the unconditional favorite. And in other types of the program there were many unpredictable winners. Therefore, the day after tomorrow will be a new day, we will fight, I will give all my strength, show the maximum of what I am ready for now, and I will try to take a place as high as possible.

In her run, Ryzhikova finished second and qualified directly for the final (54.51). This is the eighth time among the finalists.

The women’s 400m hurdles final will take place on July 23 at 05:50 am Kyiv time.

Recall that Ukraine won the second medal at the 2022 World Cup. Silver in the high jump was won by Yaroslav Maguchy.
