Olympic cross-country ski champion Veronica Stepanova spoke to the three-time 2022 Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov challenging him to compete to see who can get the most kids onto the ski slope.
Stepanova previously called Bolshunov’s victories this season boring. The 27-year-old responded by telling The Championship that he “doesn’t want to waste his emotions on a person he’s not interested in.” The champion wrote that if “Bolshunov does not understand the meaning of the words “irony” and “sarcasm”, this is his joy. The president of the Russian Ski Racing Federation, Elena Vyalbe, urged, in a commentary on , “not to fan the flames of such nonsense.”
“I think Bolshunov and I must first compete to see who can take the most children to the ski slope. He has a whole breed named after him, well done. We are completely different and, as they say, we cannot baptize children, but each of us works in our own way to attract attention to skiing. Let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools compete! — Stepanova wrote on her Telegram channel .
Bolshunov has won every individual race this season. The skier has 21 victories at the Alfa-Bank Cup of Russia and the Spartakiad of the Strongest.
