Senchenko: I think Benavidez is the favorite in the fight with Gvozdyk. He didn’t have such breaks in his career, and he’s in better shape now

According to Vyacheslav, Alexander is already ready to box for the championship title

Former world welterweight champion and later coach Vyacheslav Senchenko shared his opinion on the upcoming fight for the WBC interim title between the former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk and undefeated boxer David Benavidez.

“Gvozdyk is a very experienced boxer. There’s no point in giving him a lot of easy fights [после возвращения]. With his experience and his skills, he is already ready to box for the champion title. I don’t think it was necessary to lead him to this fight longer. No, this is a good chance. And in his place, perhaps every boxer took advantage of the opportunity to box for the title.”

“I think the change of category will not affect Benavidez. He has quite good data for this weight. He has height, arm span, and his boxing class is high. So I expect him to be one of the leaders in the light heavyweight division.”

“I think Benavidez is the favorite. Although I don’t think it will be easy for him in a fight with Alexander. In my opinion, it will be a tense fight, very difficult for Benavidez. But Benavidez did not have such pauses as Alexander in his career. And he is now, perhaps, in the best shape. So I still give a slight preference to Benavidez.”

Let us remind you that WBC Ukraine President Nikolai Kovalchuk recently announced a fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez. The fight will take place for the WBC interim champion belt, which is owned by the American. According to the Ukrainian boxer, this fight will take place next summer – in June or July.

Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.

Benavidez fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round.
