Swimmer Chikunova talks about 200m world record: “Those were the best seconds of my life”

Russian swimmer Evgenia Chikunova called the 200 meter swim, in which she set a world record, the best seconds of her life.

Last April, Chikunova set a world record in the 200-meter breaststroke at the Russian Championships in Kazan – 2 minutes 17.55 seconds. Chikunova’s record was ratified by the International Swimming Federation.

— You need to set ambitious goals. I’ve been aiming for the world record for a long time and I can’t say it was completely unexpected. What was unexpected was how well I broke the record, yes. When I breathed, I heard the screams from the stands. I realized that either I was very close or I had broken the record.
