Nora Jeruto brought the national team of Kazakhstan the first gold medal in the history of the World Championships in Athletics.
She won the 3000m steeplechase in Eugene, USA with a time of 8 minutes 53.02 seconds. Second was Ethiopian Werkwha Getachew (8 minutes 54.61 seconds). Also on the third row is the representative of Ethiopia Mekides Abebe (8 minutes 56.08 seconds).
Jeruto, 26, of Kenyan origin, set the fastest time in the world championships. Nora moved to Kazakhstan in 2017. In 2022 she received official permission to represent Kazakhstan at the world championships.
The world championship takes place in Eugene and ends on July 24. Russians and Belarusians are suspended from international competitions.
