The Russian junior synchronized swimming team will not be able to train in Novogorsk in March after the roof of the base collapsed, coach Natalia Mendygalieva told .
Last week, the Russian Sports Ministry announced that the roof of the Novogorsk federal base, where the swimming pool is located, had collapsed. A training camp for the junior team was planned there in March.
“We are very sorry that this happened at our beloved base in Novogorsk, where we constantly train, and I have only the most enthusiastic reviews about this. Everything is so good and so well done for the athletes. There they gave us the maximum amount possible [тренировок] on the water. Losing such a base, given that 8-10 hours of water is obligatory for us, turned out to be a very big problem.
We will now write a letter to the Russian Minister of Sports asking him to move the training camp to the ZIL synchronized swimming center. I hope they will meet us halfway and both national teams – junior and youth – will train at ZIL for the time being,” Mendygalieva told .
