Shevchenko: Monzul’s main task is to restore the trust of Ukrainian football in our referees

Ukrainian arbitration is facing serious changes

Head of the Ukrainian Football Association Andrey Shevchenko commented on the appointment Ekaterina Monzul to the post of head of the UAF referee committee.

“There was a very open conversation without any restrictions. Everyone was interested in the topic of refereeing. We told you the latest news. The head of the Arbitrators Committee was replaced, who became Ekaterina Monzul. They gave her the opportunity to form her own committee.”

“What we want to see is a lie detector and a draw for referees. Monzul has a little time to put it all together and give us a proposal. The main task is to restore the trust of Ukrainian football in our referees.”

The famous Ukrainian referee replaced the Italian Luciano Luci as Head of the UAF Referees Committee. Monzul also joined the new Executive Committee of the UAF on the same day when Andrei Shevchenko was elected head of the organization – January 25.

The UAF Executive Committee supported the proposal to oblige Ukrainian referees to undergo a polygraph test (“lie detector”). The procedure will be applied in-competition and out-of-competition. The Executive Committee also approved the introduction of a draw system when appointing referees for matches.

The 2023/24 UPL season resumed on February 23. In all matches of the 18th round of reporting, the VAR system is used.
