State Duma Deputy Svetlana Jourova told that by filing three appeals with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU), we show that we still claim first place in the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games.

The CAS announced on Monday the registration of four appeals against the ISU decision on the redistribution of medals for the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Olympic Games: from the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), from the Russian Federation of Figure Skating (FFKKR), Russian Figure Skaters, and the Canadian Figure Skating Federation.

— Previously, the question was: “Should I appeal?” If we had not appealed, we would have accepted the ISU’s decision. But by filing three appeals, we show that we are going to fight, because they also want to take away the bronze medal from us. These calls are an indicator that we all equally claim first place. Such cases have already happened, the Americans are an example and the IOC was in favor of maintaining the medals. I think our defense will cite this case as an example. Considering that the Canadians also appealed to take our third place, appealing from us is completely understandable,” Zhurova told .

At the end of January, the CAS suspended Kamila Valieva for four years for violating anti-doping rules. The 17-year-old Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date. The athlete’s sample contained banned trimetazidine.

The CAS decision led to a review of the results of the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Games, in which the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second, the Russians will receive bronze. The Canadians took fourth place.
