The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne has registered four appeals against the decision of the International Skating Union (ISU) relating to the redistribution of medals in the team figure skating competition at the 2022 Olympic Games, reports the service court press release.
At the end of January, the CAS disqualified Kamila Valieva four years for anti-doping rule violations. The 17-year-old Russian’s suspension period begins on December 25, 2021, and her results have been canceled since that date. The athlete’s sample contained banned trimetazidine.
The CAS decision led to a review of the results of the team figure skating tournament at the 2022 Games, in which the Russian team won. First place is now awarded to the American team, the Japanese are second, the Russians will receive bronze. Fourth place remained in Canada.
The Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) and the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR), whose appeals will be heard separately, are seeking a CAS decision ordering the International Skating Union (ISU) to once again change the result of the competition team at the Beijing 2022 Games. Games as follows: Russia – gold, USA – silver, Japan – bronze.
A call from Russian figure skaters Alexander Gallyamov, Nikita Katsalapov, Mark Kondratyuk, Anastasia Mishina, Victoria Sinitsina and Kamila Valieva was also recorded separately. The athletes demand that the ISU decision be reconsidered and that the gold medals of the team tournament be awarded to Russian athletes.
Additionally, the Canadian Figure Skating Federation is demanding that the results of the team tournament be re-examined and that bronze medals be awarded to the national team. According to the Canadian side, the final table should look like this: United States (67 points), Japan (65), Canada (55), Russia (54).
— The four CAS arbitration procedures have just begun. It is not yet possible to indicate when the hearings will take place, if at all, the press release specifies.
