The coach of the Ukrainian team Primera, who started their journey in the Segunda with them, wants to continue writing joint history
Head coach Girona Michel confidently connects his future with his current club.
“My future in Girona? I am confident that I will be here next season,” the 48-year-old said at a press conference.
Michel has previously said that he does not intend to leave the Catalan club at the end of the current campaign.
Michel has been working with Girona since the summer of 2021 and in his first season managed to lift the team from Segunda to La Liga. The coach’s current contract runs until the summer of 2026. It was previously reported that he is one of the candidates for the post of head coach of Barcelona, which its current coach Xavi will leave in the summer.
Yesterday, February 26, Girona defeated Rayo Vallecano (3:0) at home and regained second place in the La Liga standings, beating Barcelona. The winning goal – already his sixth this season – was scored for Michel’s team by Ukrainian winger Viktor Tsygankov. His teammate and compatriot Artem Dovbik is one of the top scorers in the championship with 14 goals.
The White-Reds are six points behind leaders Real Madrid. In the next round, the most Ukrainian team in Primera will play away against Mallorca.
