European Aquatics has proposed moving the European Championships to Kazan from 2024 to 2028, Vladimir Leonov, Minister of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan, told .

The 2024 European Aquatics Championships have been moved from Kazan to Belgrade following recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to hold international competitions in Russia.

— We signed a contract for the European Swimming Championships in 2024, which included all water sports on the program, with the exception of water polo. As a result, the tournament was moved to Belgrade. We were asked to move this championship from 2024 to 2028. There were re-elections in European aquatic sports and we decided that after the Future Games we would discuss this proposal,” Leonov told .
