Athletistic/ Others. The Norwegian grandmaster, current world chess champion Magnus Carlsen, will not play with the winner of the Candidates Tournament – Russian Ian Nepomniachtchi – in the match for the world chess crown.
In an interview with the Magnus Effect podcast, Carlsen admitted he had no motivation to stage another World Cup game. At the same time, he did not rule out the possibility of returning to the Classical World Chess Championship and also said that he would continue to play chess outside the World Championship.
Earlier it was reported that if Carlsen refused, Ian Nepomniachtchi would play in the World Chess Crown match with Chinese chess player Ding Liren, who took second place in the Candidates Tournament. The game is expected to take place in early 2023.
