Former head coach of the Belarusian athletics team was disqualified for 5 years due to the situation with Timanovskaya

The disciplinary court of the independent body for combating negative phenomena in athletics (Athletics Integrity Unit) disqualified the former head coach of the Belarusian athletics team Yuri Moisevich for five years due to the situation with the departure of runner Kristina Timanovskaya from the Tokyo Olympics. , according to the IAU website.

The court ruled that the 63-year-old had violated the “dignity” and “honesty” clauses of the code. His actions were recognized as “a blatant insult to the dignity of the athlete and an abuse of power”, in addition, he “provided false or inaccurate information, which led to Timanovskaya’s departure from the Olympic village.”

“This decision represents an important achievement in terms of protecting the rights of athletes and sends a clear signal that the AIU will do everything possible to protect these rights and the fundamental values of sport,” said AIU President David Howman.

Timanovskaya at the Tokyo Olympics was supposed to compete for the Belarusian national team in the 100 and 200 meters. However, after two Belarusian runners were excluded from the 4 x 400 meter race due to lack of required anti-doping controls, they decided to use the athlete in this race as well. The athlete, who has never run this distance, criticized the decision of coaches and management who, according to her, are trying to correct their shoddy work to the detriment of the athletes.

Soon, the Olympic Committee of Belarus withdrew Timanovskaya from participation in the Games “based on the findings of doctors due to her emotional and psychological state.” The athlete was taken to Tokyo airport on August 1, 2021, but she sought help from local authorities and did not board the flight. The athlete recorded part of his conversations with Moisevich, the contents of which served as evidence that the coach “drawn or at least contributed to drawing a false conclusion about the athlete’s mental and emotional state in order to justify its immediate withdrawal. of the Games on the orders of the Ministry of Sports. Subsequently, the athlete received Polish citizenship.

During the Olympics, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) stripped Moisevich of his accreditation and expelled him from the Olympic Village.
