Pyatenko: I’m pleased with the result, we completed the minimum task

The Ukrainian women’s team defeated Bulgaria again and retained their place in Division B of the League of Nations

Head coach Ukrainian women’s national football team Vladimir Pyatenko commented on the victory over Bulgaria in the Division B playoff match League of Nations.

“Before the match we talked and said that the Bulgarians would play more aggressively and put pressure. The team coped with the pressure, and further improved our game. The players fulfilled what we agreed on. The main thing is that we won, didn’t concede and that this game ended without injuries.”

“I’m pleased with the result. We started slowly, but no matter how we prepared ourselves, the girls, of course, kept the result of the first match in their heads. No, there was no relaxation. But the girls understood that after 4:0 in the first match, their opponents had little chance.”

“Substitutions compared to the first match? We were guided by experience, by the fact that each football player can replace another. At the end, the players were given the opportunity to make their debut. Here is a forced substitution: Veronika Andrukhiv was injured in the first game, with a concussion.”

“We completed the minimum task: we saw all the players who are on the national team’s radar. We saw their capabilities, this is the second task. And Division B is the next stage. It is a qualifier for the Euro, and will be held according to the principle of the League of Nations. If League A is the easiest path to the Euro, then Division B is average. “Of course, I wouldn’t want to go through a difficult journey to the Euro, although you can get to the championship from any league.”

“The start of the Ukrainian championship is March 20. The draw for groups will take place on March 5th, we are waiting. And the next gathering, if I’m not mistaken, is March 28th. There will be two matches in League B.”

The Ukrainian national team defeated Bulgaria (3:0) in the return match, which took place in Antalya, Turkey. Olga Ovdiychuk, Irina Glushchenko and Lyubov Shmatko scored for the blue-yellow team.

Let us remind you that in the first match of the playoffs, Vladimir Pyatenko’s team also defeated Bulgaria (4:0). The Ukrainian national team retained its place in Division B of the League of Nations.
