Next month the blue-yellows will compete for the right to qualify for the 2024 European Championship
National team defender Ukraine Alexander Zinchenko believes that every match of the country’s national team is extremely important for the Ukrainian people.
“Honestly, if you saw the games in which I was the captain of the Ukrainian national team, then I did not feel embarrassed. I have already played more matches for my national team than many older guys. But today in modern football the leader of a team is not only its captain. If you have many leaders, it makes life easier. This is what the Ukrainian national team has on and off the field, as well as in Arsenal.”
“No one can comprehend what Ukrainians are going through, especially those in the country right now, trying to adapt to the bombs overhead. I already have two children, and I cannot imagine that my family should hide in a bomb shelter during the night siren. It’s very difficult for people to explain what’s happening in Ukraine.”
“We, football players playing abroad, talk here about the tragedy of our people and try to help as much as we can, as soon as we can. I understand that to some extent people are tired of the war, but we need to continue [жить]. We don’t know what will happen in the coming years, so we have to stick together.”
“We, the players, have additional responsibility. We can give Ukrainians positive emotions, make them smile, make them happy, at least for a few minutes. It is our responsibility to give them joy. This is what we try to do every time we wear a T-shirt with the Ukrainian coat of arms on the chest.”
The Ukrainian national team will play away against Bosnia and Herzegovina in the semi-finals of the playoffs for the 2024 European Championship qualification on March 21. If they win, Rebrov’s team will host the winner of the Israel-Iceland duel in Wroclaw, Poland, on March 26. Tickets for this match are already on sale.
The 2024 European Championship will be held in Germany from June 14 to July 14, 2024. The matches of the European Championship will be held in arenas in Berlin, Cologne, Dortmund, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Gelsenkirchen, Hamburg, Leipzig, Munich and Stuttgart.
