President of the All-Russian Swimming Federation Vladimir Salnikov reported that the story of the possible holding of the 2028 European Aquatics Championships in Kazan is a discussion about the transfer of the previous contract, and not a proposal for a new one.
Kazan was supposed to host the European Swimming Championships in 2024, but the tournament was moved to Belgrade following recommendations by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) not to hold international competitions in Russia. Previously, the Ministry of Sports of the Republic of Tatarstan told that the parties were discussing the possibility of holding this tournament in Kazan in 2028.
– This is not something new. We are talking about the contract which was for 2024. The question of a possible postponement of the previously awarded championship now arises until 2028,” Salnikov told .
The European Swimming Championships will be held in Belgrade from June 10 to 23.
