“I was not hoping for a world record, I hope there will still be a chance” – Kolesnikov on winning the Friendship Games

swimming olympic medalist Kliment Kolesnikov said he was not hoping to break the 100m backstroke world record at the first leg of the Friendship Games.

Kolesnikov won with a score of 52.58 seconds. At the World Championships in Budapest, Italian Thomas Ceccon set a world record of 51.60.

– Now the competition in the 100m backstroke has become stronger, since 2016 the guys have been catching up and each time it is more and more interesting. If we compare by the numbers, I lost a second in the second fifty dollars. I was not counting on a world record in principle – no time to break a world record now. I hope there will still be an opportunity to prepare some departures and to do so. I had to do all the work that I couldn’t do before because of my health. In general, I am satisfied. There was no task to display superseconds.

– Were the results of the World Championship a benchmark to be achieved?

– Not. If we went to the World Cup now, the results would be different. We would train over specific distances, we would approach differently. Therefore, seconds are now an indicator that there is something to work on. We will analyze all sports details that ordinary people are not interested in, Kolesnikov told reporters.
