The second victory in a row allowed the blue-yellows to rise to second place in the group
Ukrainian women’s handball team with considerable difficulty retained victory over Israel in the 3rd round match qualifying stage on European Championship 2024.
The Ukrainians, playing their first match after the resignation of head coach Vitaly Andronov, immediately seized the initiative and led by three points several times during the first half, but the Israelis reduced the lead to a minimum just before the break.
As the second half progressed, Boris Chizhov’s team seemed to have removed the question of a winner – at a certain point the gap in the score reached eight points. But the Israelis again made a breakthrough and at the end of the match they even equalized the score – 27:27. And yet, the final word remained with the Ukrainians.
The result was a difficult victory with a minimal score, which became the second in a row for the blue-yellows in this qualifying round. Let us remind you that the Ukrainian team started with a defeat from Germany, after which they beat Slovakia.
With four points, Ukraine ranks second in Group 2, behind Germany in additional indicators. The day after tomorrow, March 2, Chizhov’s team will play a repeat match against rivals from Israel.
The winners and second places of the groups, as well as the four best teams that will take third places, will qualify for the 2024 European Championship. Qualification, which started on October 11, will end on April 7, 2024.
The final stage of the 2024 European Championship will be held in November-December 2024 in Basel (Switzerland), Innsbruck (Austria) and Debrecen (Hungary).
