– A year has passed since the end of your Olympic Games. How has life changed after two gold medals?
– I have more animals. Invite you to great events. For example, at SPIEF. It was a bit difficult to run there – I’m not used to shoes, I rub my blisters – but overall it was fun. There was more recognition in the media, media, constant invitations to shoots and interviews.
– When did you remember that you were a double Olympic champion?
– It’s hard to say. A film crew came up to me and said, “Where are your medals?” And me: “Well, somewhere over there.” Probably, I already deal with this somewhere simply, maybe even too much. Yet the most meaningful thing is the path I have traveled, with whom I have traveled it.
– If you already only deal in medals, do you want to sell them like Ryan Lochte?
– That’s definitely not the case. I will not sell. I may have a simple attitude about it, but these are my medals, for which I have worked so hard, spent my life, my nerve cells, other people’s nerve cells.
Have you watched the World Cup?
– Not really. I just sent the results. I looked at the world record – 100m backstroke. I think we would show about the same results if we were swimming the finals at the Olympics in the evening, not the morning. We sailed well in the morning, but, as they say, we didn’t swim.
– Andrei Minakov said that this world championship is a little less good in terms of level than the previous ones.
— Perhaps I will join in this opinion. There were some brilliant moments, world records, but otherwise nothing exceptional. Other results were worse than at the Olympics, which is probably normal. I think everyone is tired and there aren’t that many new athletes.
Has there been less negativity on social media in the past two months?
“I don’t post anything and I’ve blocked everyone. Why do I need angry people on my personal page?
– Craig Reedy here expressed the opinion that Russian athletes are unlikely to even have time to qualify for the Paris Games. How do you react to all of this?
– In swimming, until the last moment there is a chance of being selected, we usually have a selection in April. But who knows? Maybe they will do everything on purpose so that we cannot participate? And they’ll speak beautifully – all for your protection. Let’s see how it will turn out in practice. It is difficult to judge this. In any case, everything will be decided at another level.
– If there are no Olympic Games, and after?
— My goal is time, I will work with it. Let’s see how I finish this year, and then I’ll watch.
– Now there is a lot of talk about prize money at alternate starts. Someone says – let them compete for medals. How do you feel about this?
– For me today, the result is in the first place. Financially, I supported myself thanks to a good performance at the Olympics.
Do Cats Thrive?
– They are beautiful. They live even better than me.
– Mask mode has been cancelled. What to expect with cats?
– Yes, I hadn’t really planned. For some reason, everyone asks me about it. I never have time to do that. There will be a telegram “Kotiki Rylov” (laughing).
– What about the distances at the “Friendship Games”?
– 50, 100, 200 m backstroke and two relay races.
– This time without crawling at personal distance?
– So far we deliberately only work for distances on the back.
– How much work did you do?
– The entire aerobic unit. Now there’s a breakdown of glycolysis, and this is the final blow of the third. I will reach the top of my form by the Spartakiad.
– The world record has always been the main objective. Now at 100 or 200m focus?
– 200 m Circumstances are constantly changing. I had a change of preparationOksana Logvinova now works with Rylov. – “TV Match”), a new trainer has been added to the gym. Muscularly-structurally changed, work too.
– Do you feel better now in terms of preparation than before the Russian Championship?
– I’m not at the top of my game, but in terms of preparation, I’m probably better. Before the Spartakiad there will be a recovery block and an eyeliner.
