“You won’t break up with someone because they don’t hang their laundry properly after washing.” Interview with Khudaiberdieva

February 29 marks exactly the dance duo’s fourth anniversary Elizaveta Khudaiberdieva /Egor Bazin roll together. In his discipline, this is a kind of phenomenon, since few skaters manage to maintain an alliance, accept each other’s disadvantages and stay afloat for a long time.

On an important date, spoke to Elizabeth and found out the secret of their couple’s harmony.

– Do you remember the first day you met, what was it like? What impression did Yegor make?

— I don’t remember the first day we met, because it was sort of casual at a competition. Therefore, my first memory is of going out on the ice to Trud in Togliatti. Although the offer to become a couple came from Egor and Oleg Sudakov, I went to the city on the Volga for tryouts, because in the Moscow skating rinks rumors and photographs would have spread even before we let’s go on the ice. And we absolutely did not understand whether we would look good together, whether it would be comfortable. I remember how Valentin Kuzyaev met me at the service entrance and we, like special agents, ran with a suitcase to the trainers’ room so that no one saw me. Overall a funny story.

— What is the most difficult thing in your relationship? How different are your personalities?

– Probably nothing now. We understood and accepted each other, with all the obvious advantages and unconditional disadvantages.

But of course we are very different. Egor is explosive and hot-tempered at work, likes to get angry with himself or begin to see disadvantages and problems where there are none. As I got older, I became a lot calmer, thawed, or something. But I still like to chat.

— What is your most memorable memory together that is not linked to figure skating?

“I helped organize the proposal to his girlfriend Katya. By the way, it was his birthday yesterday. It is thanks to close people that we do not lose motivation and spiritual balance, so it is worth saying a special thank you to him. It was an incredible day! We walked around Sochi, bought balloons and confetti in different stores, and then the champagne opened in advance. Okay, I thought about buying two bottles. But everything went well.

— In ice dancing, duos constantly separate. What is your secret?

– Yes, there is no secret. You won’t break up with your girlfriend/boyfriend because he doesn’t hang his laundry properly after washing, right? We simply talked about all of each other’s shortcomings and worked to correct them, listening to the opinions of people we respected. And first of all, we looked for these disadvantages in ourselves and developed them together.

Plus, it’s impossible to describe how difficult it was for us to get used to each other. I don’t understand how we survived (laughs). So much has already been adopted, but not everything is simple.

— Have you ever had thoughts or situations when you were about to end your joint activities?

—There was no thought. There have been situations, and even in very difficult times, I will say this. It’s good that everything remained in place and that this issue has never been raised seriously in four years. I really wouldn’t want management to find out about this and write us off saying what can we say about them if they break up tomorrow… But initially we came together as a couple with the potential for more an Olympic match. ride a bike.

— Have other athletes ever tried it with one of you during your relationship?

— No, there have never been any offers from other athletes. Well, for me at least.

— The main advice to give to those who are just starting to build their relationship and who want to not separate in two months?

– Take seriously the fact that you are entering into an “agreement” to ride together. Accept that your expectations can be shattered by simple bad luck. Everything can happen. And most importantly, sit down together and talk. Without parents, coaches and other people. Talk about all your obligations and your categorical “no’s” at work. Talk. Words through the mouth. It is important.

— Are you going to celebrate this date in any way?

— We are flying to St. Petersburg today for a tournament, so, like any other holiday, we are celebrating at work.

— For the future, how much longer will the Khudaiberdieva/Bazin duo be able to play?

— Especially since Khudaiberdieva/Bazin is destined by fate to please himself and the public.
