The Ukrainian has already surpassed the team’s best sniper last season
The most Ukrainian club in La Liga – Girona – spends its fourth season in history in elite division of Spanish football. In the previous three – two players became the best snipers of the team: Christian Stuani (2017/2018 and 2018/2019) and Tatu Castellanos (2022/2023). The first is still in the team, having scored seven goals in the championship this season, the second is already in Lazio. Moreover, Castellanos Dovbik’s scoring record has already surpassed, the Ukrainian has seven goals left before Stuani’s result, which is a record for Girona.
Stuani is a veteran and captain of Girona. The Uruguayan has been defending the club’s colors since the 2017/2018 season, having moved from Middlesbrough for 2.5 million euros. It was in his first La Liga championship that Christian set a club record in Example, scoring 21 goals in the championship (the forward had 22 goals in total). Stuani did not slow down the next season, scoring 19 goals in the championship. As mentioned above, the Uruguayan has already scored seven goals in this championship (12 in total in the season), last year he had nine (and 10 in the season).
Note that Stuani has a total of 128 goals in his 241st match for Girona. In each of his seven seasons with Girona, Christian scored 10 or more goals in a season.
Last season, Stuani was four goals behind Argentine Tatu Castellanos, who was playing in Girona on loan from New York City. In the summer, the ex-Argentina youth team player was sold to Lazio for 15 million euros, for which he scored two goals in 31 matches so far.
Dovbik in the 2023/2024 championship has already surpassed Castellanos’s result in Girona – 14 goals against 13. In total, Artem has 15 goals for Girona in his debut season against 14 for Castellanos.
Season | Player | Goals |
2017/2018 | Christian Stuani | 21 |
2018/2019 | Christian Stuani | 19 |
2022/2023 | Tattoo Castellanos | 13 |
2023/2024 | Artem Dovbik | 14 |
And yes, to evaluate the Ukrainian’s performance, it is enough to say that Welshman Garrett Bale, in his debut season in Real Madrid, scored 15 goals for Los Blancos in La Liga and 22 in all tournaments.
