Pochettino: Mudryk’s new position forced him to read the game in a different way

The coach is happy with his decision

Mentor Chelsea Mauricio Pochettino I was pleased with my decision to trust the Ukrainian Mikhail Mudrik in the FA Cup match with Leeds (3:2).

“It was a good opportunity for him to get involved in the game and bond with the team. I liked using him in the No. 10 position, then he finished the match on the left. Mudrik’s new place? It’s a position that forced him to read the game in a different way.”

In the 37th minute, Mudryk scored Chelsea’s second goal of the match, taking advantage of Raheem Sterling’s pass. This is the Ukrainian’s fifth goal in 27 matches for the Blues this season and the first in 2024.

The Ukrainian said after the match that he experienced “only positive emotions.” Before the meeting with Leeds, the Ukrainian came on as a substitute four times, and did not receive playing time in another three matches.

The team’s head coach Mauricio Pochettino previously said that the winger was on the bench due to poor form. According to the Argentine coach, Mudryk must “feel the pain of not playing – this is part of evolution and development.” It was reported that the Blues management is considering the option of renting the Ukrainian.

Let us remember that Mikhail Mudrik moved to Chelsea in January 2023 and signed a contract for eight and a half years. Chelsea and Shakhtar agreed on the transfer of the midfielder for 100 million euros.

Chelsea are in 11th place in the Premier League. The Blues next face Brentford on March 2.
