The Ukrainian’s height of 1.97 meters was enough for the silver award, but she strives for more
Ukrainian athlete Yaroslav Maguchikh commented on her performance on 2024 World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
“Mixed emotions, to be honest. I’m glad that I have a silver award because you have to appreciate what you have now. Any award is important now, so I’m glad I have silver. I’m not very happy with the result: there were two starts that showed that I was ready [на большую высоту]. And here it’s 1.97 m. But we’re moving on, we’re working, we’ll try to show higher results.”
“Of course we started playing [эмоции внутри после прыжка Олислагерс на 1.99 м], but, as it turned out, not enough to take 1.99 meters. We will communicate with the coach and investigate so that this does not happen in the future. Or did something go wrong due to pressure? Lately I don’t pay attention to pressure at all, I don’t think about what people say, what they think [обо мне]. Something went wrong during the run, although the second attempt [на 1.99 м] was good, but it didn’t work out as expected,” Yaroslava summed up.
Let us remind you that yesterday Maguchikh won a silver medal in the high jump. On the first attempt, the Ukrainian managed to clear the height of 1.97 m, but then failed to clear the mark of 1.99 m, while on the third attempt the Australian Nikola Olislagers cleared the bar at this height.
In the final part of the competition, Ukraine was also represented by Yulia Levchenko. She finished in ninth place, clearing 1.84 m.
Maguchikh previously won two victories in 2024. At the World Athletics Indoor Tour competition in Cottbus, Germany, Yaroslava set a new season record, and then won the Millrose Games event in New York, America, with a score of 2.00 m.
