2015 world figure skating champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva said she decided to put her career on hold due to the suspension of Russian athletes from international competitions.
Tuktamysheva announced in October 2023 that she was taking a career break. The 27-year-old figure skater actively participated in the show, after which she returned to training to prepare for the Russian Show Jumping Championship.
— I probably made this decision because I understand that Russian athletes are not yet allowed to participate in international competitions. Our federation does everything it can to keep us motivated: various start-ups, new projects. This all helps a lot. But athletes who have already felt the taste of victories, especially international ones, and I have a lot of experience in this area, lack such emotions,” Tuktamysheva said in an interview with NHK.
Tuktamysheva is world and European champion, winner of the Grand Prix final of the 2014/15 season.
Russian figure skaters have been suspended from international competitions by decision of the International Skating Union (ISU).
