“My legs have never cramped in my life” – track and field athlete Prosvirin about his performance at the All-Russian Pole Vault Festival

Athlete Ilya Prosvirin, after performing at the pole vault festival, told that he felt cramps in his legs during competitions for the first time in his career.

On March 3, in the Moscow Arena of the National Research University MGSU, the 5th All-Russian Pole Vault Festival was held, in which the youngest athletes and pole vault stars of Russia took part and Belarus.

Prosvirin failed to reach a height of 5.40 m. During the second attempt, the athlete’s leg cramped and he could not jump.

— How would you rate your performance before the cramp?

— At first everything was fine, but I didn’t really like the warm-up. I got used to the track, it is very rideable. Everything was great, but the condition let me down.

– What happened? Was there really a cramp?

– Yes. My legs have never cramped in my life! I’ve been doing a lot of different things with the bar, I’m doing a lot of jumps in training, sometimes 30, that’s never happened before. I am surprised! Everything was fine with my health before I got leg cramps.

— Have you already discussed it with the coach?

— I’ve already spoken to the coach. I was very angry that this happened. When everything is going well, it begins, and it happens at the most inopportune moment. I was very upset by this, but it happens. Maybe my leg was cramping because I was nervous and had lost a lot of water.

— How do you judge the season as a whole?

— This is my best season, not in terms of results, but in terms of stability. I always wanted consistency in my results. I haven’t jumped below 5.4 meters this season. Overall, I am satisfied with the season,” Prosvirin told .

Prosvirin is a bronze medalist at the 2022 Russian Championship.
