Athletistic / Athletics. Russian indoor high jump champion Natalya Spiridonova said she would agree to compete in neutral status at international tournaments, but on one condition. According to her, she does not intend to sign any declaration.
“If we had a team, as we used to participate in international competitions, even under a neutral flag, and if we were not obliged to sign declarations, then, of course, I would participate. We are working so hard, we put in effort – of course, I would like to compete on the international stage. Anyway, everyone will know that we represent Russia.
My attitude to the current situation is: if we’re not going anywhere, that means it’s time. Why should I think about what I can’t influence? It is better to think about your tasks for the summer part of the season, about preparing for important competitions. That is, what is in my power,” Spiridonova said, according to RIA Novosti Sport.
Natalya Spiridonova won the Russian indoor championship in February. During competitions in Moscow, she cleared a height of two meters for the first time in her career.
Russian track and field athletes are currently suspended from all international competitions, even in neutral situations. On December 8, 2023, the IOC admitted Russian athletes to the Paris Olympic Games, but in neutral status and under certain conditions.
