Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov said that his wife Oksana Domnina helped him survive the events that happened to him.
In early 2023, Kostomarov was hospitalized due to complications from pneumonia. The 47-year-old athlete began suffering from tissue necrosis and underwent several limb amputations. Kostomarov then underwent prosthetic surgery, and in December he returned to ice skating in Ilya Averbukh’s show.
“It’s important to have someone close to you, like my wife and my mother, they make you believe that it is not in vain that you stayed in this world, you must continue to live and move forward. They say that women are the weaker sex, but this weaker sex is a very strong sex. I am grateful to my wife, because without her I would not get through this,” Kostomarov said during the Znanie social marathon, part of the World Youth Festival.
