“It’s very fun when two singles skaters perform a pairs routine” – choreographer Fedorchenko about a duet with figure skater Samodurova

Choreographer Artem Fedorchenko told that with the European champion Sofia Samodourova choreographed a duet number for the show in a few rehearsals and hopes to perform it in public.

On March 2, an ice show took place at the World Youth Festival in Sirius Ilya Averbukh during which Fedorchenko and Samodurova presented a joint performance.

— The idea came to Ilya Averbukh. I fly to Sochi and he tells me: “Artyom, you will have to do a joint act with Sonya Samodurova.” Our show at the festival was divided into several parts, and each part symbolized and reflected an energy that we encounter in our lives. Specifically, my number, Sonya’s number, and our shared number were related to fire energy, the energy inside a person. And we had to transmit this fiery energy.

We choreographed a tango with Sonya. Sure, it’s a lot of fun when two singles skaters perform a doubles routine, but this was an incredibly cool experience. I put this number. Of course, this couldn’t have happened without Sonya’s approval. Sonya could suggest something, approved everything I proposed and suggested. This is how our joint number was born. We staged it pretty quickly, took it to rehearsal a few times, and went skating. An incomparable feeling. The room and the public received him very well. It was my first time doing a full-fledged performance in a pair show. The energy was incredibly cool. I think we succeeded in transmitting the energy of fire.

Fedorchenko is a choreographer and performs in Averbukh’s ice shows. Samodurova, European champion in 2019, retired in 2022.
