Figure skater Elizaveta Nugumanova spoke about the decision of the double Olympic champion in single skating Yuzura Hanyu end a career.
Earlier Tuesday at a press conference, the 27-year-old skater announced his retirement and transition to the pros.
– A long time ago, when Hanyu had just entered the international adult level, we saw and noted his performance with his mother, that the boy skates very well. As a result, the same Yuzuru became a double Olympic champion.
He skated beautifully, I followed his skating through all the seasons, he made history, he is admired by many, including me. By the way, there is even a photo where he gives me a happy Winnie the Pooh, it was taken during the Grand Prix Final in 2016.
I’ve always loved seeing him perform, he’s truly a legend in our sport. I hope everything will be fine for him at a new stage in his life,” Nugumanova told .
Hanyu won Olympic gold medals in 2014 and 2018, and also won World Championship gold twice (2014, 2017).
At the 2022 Olympics in Beijing, the Japanese took fourth place.
