Figure skater Gordeeva: “No one can help me, only myself”

Figure skater Maria Gordeeva told that she was independently preparing for a free program at the Moscow championship.

From March 4 to 7, the Moscow Senior Figure Skating Championships will take place at the Mechta Ice Palace.

“Everything went almost as I wanted.” I’m very happy about it, because the season is going to be very difficult. It was very important to prepare. We decided to limit ourselves to a quadruple Salchow in order to surpass ourselves and be able to skate without making big mistakes. I saw that I had under-turned the Salchow and moved on to the third level – I was in a bit of a hurry. And it seemed to me that she skated very well.

In the short program I made a mistake on a triple Lutz, it was a technical fault. We changed Lutz’s approach, and now I ride a little differently. It was important to maintain the trajectory, I fell a bit, so they placed the wrong edge. Overall, I am satisfied with these competitions.

I rented myself out. The coach told me I had to do it myself. No one can help me: neither my mother, nor my coach, nor my psychologist. Just me. If I put my mind to it, I will succeed. This is probably the first start of my season, if not my career, where I definitely go out, not think about the consequences, but I go out there and do it.

I didn’t set a goal for these competitions, I just wanted to complete my preparation, because the last week of preparation went very well. Everything went very well, I’m happy to see such performances,” Gordeeva told .

Gordeeva took 20th place in the short program with a score of 62.56 points. In the free skate, the athlete landed a quadruple Salchow and scored 134.46 points. In total – 197.02 points. The figure skater takes the first intermediate place.

Gordeeva is a bronze medalist at the 2023 Russian Junior Championships.
