Hearn: Gvozdyk vs. Benavidez fight is the weirdest I’ve ever seen

The promoter believes that there is no point in changing the weight category for the American

Famous promoter Eddie Hearn criticized the holding of the fight between the former world light heavyweight champion Alexander Gvozdyk and the holder of the “interim” WBC super middleweight title as an American David Benavidez.

“This is the weirdest fight I’ve ever seen. Why hold this fight? Look, Gvozdyk is a very good fighter, but what is Benavidez doing? Is he moving up to light heavyweight? Once David moves up to the light heavyweight division, he may not come back.”

Let us remind you that WBC Ukraine President Nikolai Kovalchuk announced a fight between Gvozdyk and Benavidez in February. The fight will be for the interim WBC light heavyweight champion. According to the Ukrainian boxer, this fight will take place next summer – in June or July.

Gvozdyk knocked out Brazilian boxer Isaac Rodriguez in his last fight. This is Alexander’s third victory after resuming his career. Prior to this, the Ukrainian knocked out Latvian boxer Richards Bolotniks in the 6th round.

Benavidez fought his last fight in November 2023. David defeated Demetrius Andrade, who refused to continue the fight after the sixth round.
