The organization relies on previously announced decisions of the international Olympic and Paralympic Committees
International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed the admission of tennis players from Russia and Belarus as “neutral” athletes for the next Olympic And Paralympic Games. Both events will take place in the summer of 2024 in Paris.
The official statement of the organization reads, in part:
“The ITF confirms that tennis players from these countries will be permitted to compete in Olympic and Paralympic tennis competitions in an individual and neutral capacity, provided they comply with the International Olympic Committee Individual Neutral Athlete Principles and the International Paralympic Committee Neutral Paralympic Athlete Principles. Neutral athletes will be required to meet the selection and eligibility requirements set out in the applicable ITF Rules.”
Let us note that on March 1, 2022, the ITF board suspended the membership of Russia and Belarus in the federation and suspended these countries from participating in international team competitions. All ITF events in these countries have also been cancelled.
Let us recall that at the beginning of December 2023, the IOC Executive Committee decided to admit participants from Russia and Belarus in the status of “individual neutral athletes” to the 2024 Olympic Games. The IPC today published the regulations for the participation of neutral Paralympic athletes at the Paris Paralympic Games.
Acting Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine Matvey Bedny called the above-mentioned IOC decision “irresponsible.” Later, the head of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, spoke about plans to assemble his own admission database regarding “neutral” athletes admitted to the 2024 Olympic Games.
Early in the morning of February 24, 2022, Russia fired rockets and aerial bombardment of most Ukrainian cities, and then launched a full-scale military invasion. The war against Russia has continued for the 742nd day.
