Roman Kostomarov: “70% of men could not stand what my wife Oksana resisted”

Olympic figure skating champion Roman Kostomarov noted the support of his wife Oksana Domnina and said that many men would not have withstood what she had to endure.

In early 2023, Kostomarov was hospitalized due to complications from pneumonia. The 47-year-old athlete began suffering from tissue necrosis and underwent several limb amputations. Kostomarov then underwent prosthetic surgery, and in December he returned to ice skating in Ilya Averbukh’s show.

— The highlight was December 17, when I went on the ice. There were 10,000 spectators. We performed with Oksana, the audience was fantastic. Everyone cried and applauded. No matter how much you feel about all this support, it still hurts to realize you can’t do something right now. I won’t skate like I used to. But I still love sliding with the cold wind on my face.

My wife’s support has been fantastic throughout, it is second to none. Women are the weaker sex, they say. About 70 percent of men would not have withstood what Oksana endured,” reports correspondent Kostomarov.

Kostomarov, together with Tatyana Navka, won gold at the 2006 Olympics in Turin, also became world champion twice and won the European Championships three times.
