Nadal: I’m not ready to perform at the highest level, so I won’t play in Indian Wells

The former first racket deliberately prepared for the tournament, but did not get into shape

Former world number one Rafael Nadal announced that he will not compete in the upcoming tournament ATP Masters 1000 in American Indian Wells.

It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from this wonderful tournament in Indian Wells. Everyone knows how much I love this place and how much I love playing here.”

“I have worked and trained hard, and you all know that I passed the test this weekend, but I do not consider myself ready to play in such an important tournament at the highest level. This is not an easy decision, in fact it is difficult, but I cannot lie to myself and thousands of fans.”

Nadal became the Indian Wells champion three times in his career. The Spaniard last competed here in 2022, losing in the final to Taylor Fritz.

Since the beginning of 2023, Rafael has had only seven fights at the professional level due to injuries. Nadal’s last match was a loss to Jordan Thompson in the quarter-finals of a tournament in Brisbane in early January.
