Olympic water polo medalist Nadezhda Glyzina said playing for the men’s team was an interesting experience for her.
Glyzina, as part of a neutral team, won gold at the World Masters Championship, which took place in Doha.
— According to the regulations, as there were no women’s teams, it was possible to join the men’s. Initially we were supposed to go with a women’s team, but it didn’t work out due to certain circumstances. I logged in and some disappointment ensued. The guys from Moscow offered to play with them. I agreed. It was an interesting experience.
– What are you doing now?
— I work as a coach. In Kirishi there is a school on the basis of which the “KINEF-2” double team is formed. This is where I work.
— Do you play for an amateur team?
— Yes, in Kirishi, everything is not limited to professional sport. Everyone has a different story: some end their career and no longer want to play, others return to training. In Kirishi, it is possible to train and participate in Masters competitions. This year we hope that there will be more teams from neighboring countries at these competitions. If all goes well, we will increase the number of groups.
— I remember Oleg Zholobov’s comment after the Rio Games. He said that at that time you would have also helped the men’s team. So it became reality, but in a different format?
– Yes (Laughs). Of course, there is a big difference in terms of strength and thinking about the game. We are from Venus, they from Mars. I was actually very happy to play in Doha,” Glyzina told .
