“Neutral” gymnasts have lost all chances to win Olympic licenses through official competitions
Not a single athlete from Russia will participate in competitions artistic gymnastics on Olympic Games 2024.
Even despite the opportunity to take part in official starts in a neutral status, representatives of the aggressor country missed the last opportunity to win Olympic licenses individually through the World Cup stages.
Back in July last year, the executive committee of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) allowed Russian and Belarusian athletes to compete under the auspices of the organization in a neutral status. However, the European Gymnastics General Assembly later voted against allowing athletes and officials from Russia and Belarus to return to official European gymnastics competition from 1 January 2024.
Thus, the Russians were unable to compete for tickets to the 2024 Olympic Games through the European Championship. And they were not represented at the World Cup stages this season.
In December it became known that, for a similar reason, there would be no Russian athletes in equestrian competitions at the Olympics in France.
In the fall of 2023, at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the Ukrainian men’s team and Anna Lashchevskaya won Olympic licenses.
